A Penny for Your Thoughts

What the End of the Penny Means for Scrap Yards
No More Pennies, No Problem
Starting in early 2026, the U.S. is officially saying goodbye to the penny, and scrap yards across the country will need to rethink how they round payments. Don’t worry, ReMatter’s already on it.
With ReMatter, you can set rounding rules that keep your payments fair, transparent, and totally compliant. Whether you’re paying cash or check, our flexible rounding options mean your customers get paid accurately - and you stay ahead of the change.
Choose Your Rounding Style
ReMatter gives you total control over how you round Cash and Check/ACH transactions:
- Always Round Up (keep your customers smiling)
- Always Round Down (keep your accountants smiling)
- Round to the Nearest (find the sweet spot)
- CRV Rounding* (because CalRecycle said so)
You can round to the nearest nickel (.05), quarter (.25), dollar (1.00), or even five dollars (5.00) - whatever makes sense for your payout process.
The CRV Rulebook
For California recyclers, CalRecycle has specific rounding guidance that goes into effect in 2026:'

Clarity for Customers
When rounding is applied, ReMatter clearly shows it right on the ticket - so your customers see exactly how totals are calculated. No confusion. No missing cents. Just clean, transparent transactions.

Coming Soon
Right now, rounding is supported for Cash transactions, but Check/ACH support is coming soon, just in time for the 2026 rollout.
So when pennies disappear, your headaches will too.
